The first component of your central air conditioning system is temperature control. In a nutshell, as your house reaches a certain temperature, the preset thermostat in your home will send a signal to your air conditioner and the unit will cycle on. Only then will your AC unit start to cool down your home.
Air Conditioner Compressor
If you think about your body, your heart does all the work to keep your systems running. The compressor in your air conditioning system is just like the heart in your body. It will pump the refrigerant throughout the system while it draws in low pressure, low temperature refrigerant while it is still a gas and then compress the gas. This raises the pressure and the temperature of the refrigerant. This will then flow to the condenser coils.
What is Condenser Coil in Air Conditioner
If you look at your central air conditioning unit, there is a series of piping known as the condenser coils. There is a fan that will move outside air across the coil and as the refrigerant moves through the coil, this air is absorbs heat from the refrigerant and turns it from a gas to a liquid. This high temperature, high pressure liquid then makes its way to the expansion valve.
AC Expansion Valve
If the compressor is the heart of your AC system, the expansion valve is the brain. It has the ability to sense the temperature of the cooling coil and allows the liquid refrigerant to pass through a small opening. As it passes through the opening, this causes it to expand to a low pressure, low temperature gas. Then this cold refrigerant passes through to the evaporator.
A/C Evaporator Coils
The evaporator coils are another series of piping that are connected to the air handler and absorbs heat from the air as indoor air is blown across it. This cooled air is then pushed through the ductwork to cool your home and the refrigerant is then pumped back to the compressor so the whole process can start over again.
